Principal Engineer – Cloud & DevOps
$180,000 – $200,000 + super + Benefits
Melbourne CBD, Hybrid + Flexible.

Digital Transformations have been few and far between this year, with the economy and cost savings moving a lot of business’ into more of an operational space. However are financial services client we are partnering is looking to kick off a complete re-platforming of their Digital services.

Would you like to work for a business that provides autonomy? Where you get to implement actual design decisions on the Cloud Architecture and still be able to help deliver them instead of getting bogged down in meetings and drawing diagrams to hand them off to and engineering team? Where you can lead a team technically, but not have to worry about the box ticking and paperwork in people management side of things.

We’re looking for a Principal Engineer to do this. This role is a new position within the team.

From a tech perspective the business is invested in AWS, in terms of current solutions there’s a mix between ECS, EKS and Serverless, unfortunately they are still using Jenkins, but you’ll have the choice when you re platform to get rid of that (Buildkite would certainly like to be considered). Reliability will also be a focus, being in Financial services 24×7 is the baseline goal, as well as Security with controls and posture.

What you’ll be doing

This is your chance to shape the direction of the AWS Cloud platform, re-designing the landing zones, setting best practices from the ground up, making technology decisions on what to use and when and coaching your engineering team up.

Team wise, you’ll be leading a team of 4 permanent Cloud Engineers, and anywhere from 4-8 contractors/consultants.

What you’ll need

At the end of the day, its financial services so it is s corporate environment, so you’re going to need to be comfortable navigating and influencing technical strategy amongst technical and non technical leadership.

You’re likely a Principal or Staff level Engineer role already so we imagine you’ve already driven Cloud adoption in environments where there is scale, risk and complexity. You’ll have a few years people leadership under the belt too.
