Event wrap: SRE meet-up

If you haven’t wrestled a drinks trolley through Collins Street…

…and navigated the classic “speaker dropout/no ice” combo, have you ever really hosted an event? Fair play to Thomas Clark—despite these opening gambits, the first 2025 SRE meet-up DELIVERED.💯

Last week, nestled in Netwealth’s sleek offices 🌿, 50-60 attendees gathered to hear our panel of observability therapists:

🛋️ Bharath Venkat Rajan (Apptio, an IBM Company)

🛋️ Benny Lo (Midnyte City)

🛋️ Hilary Harrington (Datadog)

For the first 40 minutes, the room listened politely. Then, like a quiet dinner party that suddenly discovers the tequila cabinet, the audience came alive🍹 Questions flew from all corners. Observability practices, OpenTelemetry implementation, and even security concerns became fair game. 🙋🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️

Engaged and unruffled, the panel knew exactly how to ride the room’s shared momentum swing. Hilary held the room with skill, both mediating the panel and adding her own expert perspective to the mix.

💘Observability is a lot like dating—sometimes you need to get past the surface metrics to really understand what’s going on underneath. Much like relationships, the panel confirmed that single-source wide event telemetry might be the couples counselling your dev and ops teams desperately need.

The surest sign of an event that hit the mark? 👉Nobody wanted to leave, and conversations continued well after the official Q&A wrapped up.

🙏 A massive thank you to everyone who showed up, Netwealth for lending us their gorgeous space, and Tom—who deserves a PhD in meet-up logistics.

Be sure, plans for the next one are already underway. We’d promise fewer pre-event mishaps, but where’s the fun in that? 😉
